Defense
wins Championships! Defense certainly helped the Sycamore Lady Aves to
their first State Championship and preserved their undefeated 20-0
season. The two best teams in the state of Ohio slugged it out in
the early going with Sycamore jumping to a 4-0 lead. The Bears are
a team with three state titles and were not going to go home early.
They battled back to tie the game 4-4 with half time approaching,
but a late Sycamore goal gave the Aves a slim 5-4 halftime lead.
The Green and Gold started the second half much like the first extending
their lead to 9-4. Again the Bears roared back, to get within 2
goals at 9-7. The Sycamore defense stiffened in the late stages
and that would be the final score.

New Albany 7 Summit
Country Day 5
The
New Albany Eagles not only battled the Summit Silver Knights, but had to
battle Mother Nature as well. The Eagles held a 4-2 halftime lead,
but the Silver Knights scored first in the second half to cut the margin
to one. The Eagles got an insurance goal to make the score 5-3 and
seemed to have the momentum when the skies opened and force a rain delay
of more than an hour. New Albany came off the extended break still
focused. They added two more goals while holding Summit to just 2 and
claim their first State Championship by a score of 7-5. Summit
goalkeeper Murphy Drury was the main reason for the close score,
recording 21 saves in the game.

Revere 14 Watterson 11
The
number 34 may be banned at Watterson. That's the number of Revere
offensive machine Kelly Rohrich. She had 7 goals and 2 assists in
the first ever Club Division State Championship in leading Revere to a
14-11 shootout win over the Watterson Lady Eagles. The game got
off to a quick start with Revere taking a 3-0 lead. The Eagles
settled down and adapted to Revere's "run and gun" style, and Jena Wade
and Clare Tropper each scored goals to bring BW back to within one goal
at 3-2. Rohrich, teammates Allie Lannon and Isabel Simon kept the
Revere offense in high gear and they moved to a 7-4 halftime lead.
Watterson kept fighting at one point closing to 9-7, and 10-9 on a goal
by Kaitlin Flaherty but each time it got close Revere and Rohrich
would answer. Final 14-11.

Golden Bears Stay
Hot...Torch Blazers 17-4
The
Golden Bears scored early and scored often, as their senior leadership
proved to be too tough for the young Hathaway Brown Blazers.
Seniors Erika Brooker (3g, 3a) and Molly Everett (3g) paced the
Bears, but there was plenty of scoring to go around as ten bears found
the net. The Bears Katie Fisher was as solid as ever between the
pipes recording 12 saves. Maggie McGreevy and her defensive pals held up
their end of the field as well.

#1 Aves Stay Unbeaten, Fly
Into Finals With 14-2 Win
After being close for the last five years, the Lady Aves are in the
Finals, and they left no doubt why they have been ranked #1. The
Aves soared past a young and talented Chagrin Falls team, that had
pulled off the upset of the tournament in beating defending State
Champion Cleveland Heights in the regional finals. Sycamore just
had too many weapons. Senior Allison Bell lead the Aves with 6
goals and 1 assist, while sophomore Lily Ricci has 3 goals. The Aves
looked as sharp as they have all season, pin point passing gave them 6
assists on the night, including 4 by junior Becca McLouth. If defense
wins championships the Aves certainly have a good one, lead by
keeper Brett Yenger and senior Rosie Griffen. It's the rematch
Ohio lacrosse fans have been waiting for Sycamore vs UA for all the
gold.....

Second Half Carries Eagles
to Title Game...New Albany 12 St. Ursula Academy 8
The St. Ursula Arrows trailed early, but battled back to tie the
score at 6-6 by halftime, but the New Albany Eagles tightened up the
defense and went on a scoring binge in the second half to gain a 12-8
victory and a trip to the Division II Final. NA relied on the two
big guns that lead them all season, junior Shelby Passias (4g) and
freshman Molly Hamilton (3g). Keeper Kate Stephan, back in the
tournament line up after missing most of the regular season with an
injury was solid between the pipes with 8 saves. The Arrows were
lead by sophomore Hillary Lorton with 3 goals.

Silver Knights Stay Hot,
Shoot Down the Blue Streaks 15-11
Perhaps the hottest team in the 2007 OSLA Tournament is the Summit
Country Day Silver Knights. After knocking off #1 Lakota in the
regional finals, Summit turn in a solid performance in the State
Semi-finals in defeating Beaumont 15-11. Junior Alex Thurner
lead the Knights high powered offense with 5 goals, and senior Lauren
Jantsch and freshman Lizzy Edwards each had 3 goals. The real key
to Summit's win may have been keeper Murphy Drury who had 14 saves,
including some key stops when it looked like the Blue Streaks might make
a run. Junior Mackenzie Kilfoyle lead Beaumont's balanced scoring
with 3 goals. The Knights will meet New Albany in the Finals.
