Gators Battle But Lose OT Heartbreaker
Magnificat 11 Laurel 10 OT
In a tense, hard-fought
game played in heavy rain, the Gators mounted a furious comeback to knot the
game in regulation at 10-10, only to have Magnificat score the sudden-death
tiebreaker less than a minute into the overtime period. The first half was
primarily a defensive struggle, with Mags taking a 4-2 lead into half-time.
The second-half provided more fire power from both sides, with the Gators
coming back from a 10-7 deficit to tie the game on a Cara Wood goal with
less than a minute to play in regulation.
Laurel’s scoring was led by
their Ohio State bound senior, Olivia Cora, with six goals, with strong
contributions from junior, Cara Wood, 1 goal and 3 assists, senior, Tasha
Toth with a goal and an assist, and junior, Alex Bidar’s goal, and sophomore
Maggie Sivit’s goal. Louisa Lowe was again strong in the nets with 10 saves.
The defensive effort was led by Anna Brezinski, ably assisted by the Killeen
sisters, Stephanie Rowitz, and Alexis Green.

The Laurel Gators played
their best all-around game of the season against Walsh, dominating on both
ends of the field. The Gator scoring attack was led by Olivia Cora with six
goals, followed by Cara Wood with 4 goals and as assist. Maggie Sivit had
three goals and an assist, Alex Bidar 1 goal and one assist and Alex Green
chipped in with an assist. The defensive unit led by Anna Brzezinski, Martha
Gilchrist, Erin and Maggie Kileen, and Alex Green blanketed the Walsh
attack. Louisa Lowe had another strong game in goal with 11 saves.
LAUREL LOSES TO HUDSON,
14-4
A tough Hudson squad was
able to shut down Laurel’s attack, especially in the second half, and
coasted to a 14-4 win. Laurel’s scoring was done by Cara Wood with two
goals, Maggie Sivit and Tasha Toth with one each and Alex Bidar had an
assist. Louisa Lowe did her best to keep the Gators in the game with 16
saves, but just had too many shots come her way.

The Laurel
Gators evened their record at 1-1 with a resounding victory over the
Lancers. Scoring was evenly distributed with Cara Wood getting 4 goals and
one assist, Olivia Cora with three goals, Tasha Toth with 2 goals, Maggie
Sivit with one goal and one assist, and Alex Bidar, Stephanie Rowitz, Katie
Whitlow, and Alex Green each chipping in with a goal. Louisa Lowe had a
strong game in goal turning away 8 shots.
Laurel 8, Marian School

In a match
that saw the Gators jump off to a four goal lead early in the game, only to
have the game tied by half-time, the Gators played a strong second half and
held on for an 8-6 win. Scoring was led by Olivia Cora with three goals,
Cara Wood with two goals and as assist, Alex Bidar, Maggie Sivit, and Alex
Green with one goal each, and Kate Mintz with an assist. Louisa Lowe was
again strong in the nets with eight saves. The defense, led by Anna
Brzezinski, did a good job of shutting down the Marian attack.
Cranbrook (Detroit) 8, Laurel

In a
heartbreaking loss, Laurel came up just short after a furious rally to get
within one goal. A shot with 20 seconds left which would have tied the game
rang off the post The game was a defensive struggle most of the way. Goals
were scored by Cara Wood (3 and one assist), Olivia Cora (2), and Alex Bidar
(2). Maggie Sivit had an assist. The defense and goal-keeping was strong,
especially in the second half. Louisa Lowe had three saves.
Gators Lose Opener to Hawks
Hawken 19 Laurel 11
Laurel started its 2008
season against Hawken School after having two games cancelled by bad
weather. Although the Gators were able to put several points on the board,
they were unable to slow down the Hawken attack in the second half and
eventually lost 19-11. The Laurel scoring was led by Cara Wood with five
goals, followed by Olivia Cora with three, Alex Bidar, 2 goals and Tasha
Toth with a goal. Louisa Lowe had two saves in goal.
